Clinical Placement Expansion Project2021-07-06T14:22:51+01:00

Following a successful bid to the Clinical Placement Expansion Fund, we were awarded £90,000 to restart and grow clinical placement expansion. This is a fantastic opportunity to develop a bespoke portal of resources, allowing students to gain confidence and expertise in clinical decision making despite clinical placement limitations.

Although this will be of particular benefit during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, we intend to make it an invaluable resource for many years to come, and it will contribute to expanding and supporting the profession.

The online portal will be accessible to students from all four Universities offering Orthoptics, and tutors across all  clinical placement sites.

The Project

Part 1 of the project is to upload and catalogue a large variety of useful resources onto the portal. Submitted by orthoptists across the country, we hope to collect a wide variety of brilliant resources to supplement clinical teaching, such as:

  • Hess charts, fields of uniocular fixation and BSV
  • Case notes or case scenarios
  • Interesting cases
  • Worksheets

Please ensure any resource you send to us has been anonymised.

If you have a resource that you can share please do so now, by emailing them to the Clinical Placement Expansion Project Team (

Collecting and organising existing resources is only the initial phase of this exciting project, in the coming months we will be supporting clinical tutors to create a range of bespoke videos that can be used for teaching.

You can access example resources and templates in the members’ area below.

Part 2 of the funding for this project will allow us to provide iPads or Hololens2 video hardware to various placement sites to enable them to record consultations.

As this aspect of the project develops, we will post updates on this page and include them in Parallel Vision for members.
