BIOS is delighted to announce our third joint Fight for Sight /BIOS co-funded Small Research Grant Award. The Award is up £15,000 over one year. This is a significant sum that could fund equipment, specific research training, research staff or time, or specialist services. The HCPC are currently seeking orthoptists to undertake the role of FTP panel member for the Health and Care Professions Tribunal Service. The HCPTS is the fitness to practise adjudication service of the Health and Care Professions Council. Panels hear and determine cases on behalf of the HCPTS's three Practice Committees: the Investigating Committee, Conduct and Competence and Health Committees. We're currently surveying all orthoptic departments in England to allow us to establish the current provision of ‘orthoptic-led’ and ‘non-orthoptic-led’ child vision screening. In 2019, we carried out a Freedom of Information request of local authorities and CCGs, alongside the Clinical Council for Eye Health Commissioning (CCEHC), to establish a picture of services across England, the results of which were published in 2020, and are available here.
