Workforce Development Programme

The Workforce Development Programme is a series of projects funded by NHS England which enhance BIOS’s current initiatives for developing and securing the orthoptic workforce throughout the UK both now and in the future.

Career Development Framework

We are currently working to create a contemporary, inclusive Professional Development Framework to enable us to promote the profession and support learning and development across all levels of practice and roles.

Developing the Orthoptic Support Workforce

Recognising the importance of the support staff working in orthoptic and ophthalmic services, we are looking to develop information, guidance and resources to fully utilise the contribution of support staff and aid in their professional development.

Promoting Careers in Orthoptics

Promoting the orthoptic career is vital for building a sustainable, skilled workforce capable of meeting the increasing demands for eye care services. Our goal is to enhance awareness and visibility of the profession, showcasing the diverse and rewarding opportunities available, and attracting talented individuals to Orthoptics.

Hololens & PERL Project

Our award-winning project revolutionised practice-based learning for orthoptic students, through live streaming of patient assessments and the creation of an online resource library. These pages contain everything you need for your department to get involved with this project.
