At BIOS, we believe that promoting Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) is essential to building a stronger, more equitable orthoptic profession. We are proud to highlight the incredible achievements of our members and teams who are making a difference in fostering inclusivity and breaking down barriers.

Our EDI Success Stories page showcases inspiring initiatives, innovative solutions, and impactful changes that demonstrate the power of EDI in action. These stories provide valuable insights into how individuals and organisations are creating meaningful change within their workplaces and communities.

By sharing these success stories, we aim to:

  • Inspire: Motivate others to champion EDI by highlighting real-world examples of positive change.
  • Educate: Provide practical ideas and strategies for addressing challenges and promoting inclusivity.
  • Celebrate: Recognise the dedication and efforts of those driving EDI forward in the orthoptic profession.

Do you have a success story to share? We would love to hear from you! Whether it’s an initiative that improved patient care, a programme that fostered workplace inclusion, or a personal journey of advocating for change, your story can inspire others and contribute to a growing culture of equity and diversity in our profession.

Contact our EDI Lead to submit your success story, at [email protected] and let’s celebrate the incredible work being done to make our profession more inclusive for everyone.

“The tutors forum topic on “tackling unconscious bias on placement” was really excellent and gave myself and tutors the chance to reflect on our own practice. We learnt about how unconscious bias can impact a student’s placement experience and the steps we can take to help everyone feel more included. I found it really helpful to recognise that unconscious bias can come in so many subtle forms which can have such a negative impact if left unchecked.

I definitely felt more empowered to act in a positive way to create inclusive placements for my students following Marians’ presentation.”
