HeartUnions week this year takes place from 08 to 14 February 2021. A week of activity throughout England and Wales that highlights the good work that unions do every day to offer everyone a voice at work.

Heart Unions is our chance to tell the story about why unions are vital for everyone at work, and encourage people who aren’t yet in a union to join. Every year it’s a chance for reps and activists to publicise what they’ve been doing and make the case for union membership.

2020 was a tough year for all and for those working in the health sector in particular. BOSTU knows how hard our members worked to alleviate the strains put on the NHS by COVID-19. We know this because we were in dialogue with our members and heard first hand how things were unfolding in the hospitals and communities in which our members operate. Throughout the pandemic, in addition to COVID-19 specific duties, our members continued to carry out their invaluable work in orthoptics.

We know that every worker needs a union and every workplace needs a rep. If you want to improve your workplace for the better then becoming a BOSTU Representative is a great way to do so.

  • If you want to learn more about getting involved as a rep or an activist contact our BOSTU Advisor.

  • You can find out more about the work BOSTU do and download helpful guides and resources on workplace and employment issues here.

If you’re based in the Republic of Ireland for work, unfortunately we are unable to provide you with trade union representation, but it is still vitally important you are a member of a union. Most of our Irish members are members of the public sector union, Forsa. You can find out more about their work and join via their website here.
