The BIOS Conference, to be held at the Pendulum Hotel in Manchester on the 11th and 12th July 2024, promises to be a fantastic couple of days in this exciting and vibrant city. The Conference will cover a range of topics, including, but not limited to, core orthoptics, research, the support workforce, stroke, and career development. On both days there will be multiple opportunities to interact with fellow orthoptists, through case discussion presentations, panel discussions and social activities, giving delegates the opportunity to share knowledge, learning and experience. We’re running three workshops between 12th -24th September 2024 to give members the opportunity to feed into the early stages of our new BIOS Career Development Framework. The new resource will help to improve visibility and support recruitment, retention, career progression, and learning and development across all career levels. Online forum for Orthoptic clinical tutors. Aim is to provide opportunity to discuss topics relevant to the provision of clinical placements for undergraduate and postgraduate orthoptic students. This forum will focus on the importance of grading students accurately on placement with particular emphasis on how the “failing” student. A key focus of the BIOS Strategy 2023-28 is to continue to increase our professions' and BIOS's visibility. An important component of this is to try and increase our visibility to members, to highlight the enormous amount of work that we're doing to push the development of the profession forward, and to ensure we are representing our members and advocating for our profession.
