Updates on BIOS Events and Services

We are working hard to continue to provide the same level of support and representation to our members throughout these challenging times. However, where changes have been unavoidable we will provide updates below.

In line with the government advice, including social distancing, cancellation of study leave and non-essential travel to meetings, BIOS has made the decision to cancel or postpone all events and clinical meetings until after the summer. Where events are not able to be rearranged, we will issue a refund to all those who have signed up. Where events are rescheduled, you will be given the choice of a refund or transferring your ticket to the new date.

  • BIOS LOOP Conference 2020 & AGM – we are currently looking to postpone this until the Autumn and will contact all those with tickets once a date is confirmed.

We will update the Events pages with further information as it becomes available.

Due to the ongoing situation with COVID-19, we have made the decision to suspend the collection of data for our Workforce Survey early.

We are therefore now only requesting data for Monday 2 March – Sunday 15 March, as well as the information in the Head and Lead Orthoptist Questionnaire. We are still requesting this data is returned for Thursday 9 April 2020.

You can find more information on our workforce survey here.

BOS TU is here to support you in the event that you are concerned about the behaviour of your employer in their response to  COVID-19.

Unfortunately, it is now not safe for the BOSTU Advisor or any local representatives to travel outside of their own organisation to support members. Meetings that are scheduled to take place, where a rep from outside your organisation is required, should be postponed until it is safe for the reps to travel again and be present at the meeting.

Your local rep is available to answer local queries around policy and procedures within your organisation (A full list can be found in the members area here). Sam Aitkenhead, our TU Advisor, is available for members queries that need her expertise.  Sam will support you via email, teleconference call or skype and will ensure communication is kept open during this time.

The NHS Staff Council has issued a joint statement which contains all relevant advice to those members working in the NHS including working with patients and your own working arrangements: View NHS Staff Council advice here.
