Making an application

Both the University of Liverpool and University of Sheffield offer 38 United Kingdom / European Union places each year (dependent on NHS funding). Approximately 600 applicants compete for those places. Glasgow Caledonian University has a course in Orthoptics which started in September 2012 and aims to recruit between 12-16 students.

Before applying

We strongly advise prospective students to visit a local orthoptic department before applying. Work experience itself is not required, but with stiff competition it is essential to show commitment and understanding of the profession.

Pre-entry work experience is therefore desirable. Applicants contacting us are encouraged to visit an orthoptic department close to where they live for at least half a day, and it is considered a favourable asset when the admissions team read applicants' personal statements.

All enquiries are made through the UCAS system http://www.ucas.com/
